Abstract
Korosi merupakan gejala alam pada logam yang tidak bisa dihilangkan tetapi dapat dicegah. Oleh karena itu berbagai upaya pengendalian dilakukan untuk mengurangi dampak korosi terutama pada peralatan yang kontak langsung dengan air. Penggunaan inhibitor adalah salah satu cara paling efektif dalam mengendalikan proses korosi. Tetapi inhibitor yang aman sangat diperlukan selain itu harus mudah diperoleh dan ramah lingkungan. Salah satu inhibitor alami yang aman adalah ekstrak limbah puntung rokok. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji keefektifan ekstrak limbah puntong rokok dalam menurunkan laju korosi pada besi dan juga menentukan bagaimana hubungan dari ekstrak limbah puntung rokok dengan konsentrasi dalam menghambat laju korosi. Penentuan laju korosi dengan menggunakan metode kehilangan berat, dilakukan pembersihan dan penimbangan untuk memperoleh berat benda uji. Variasi perendaman yang diberikan pada paku besi uji adalah konsentrasi ekstrak 0, 20, 40, 60,80,100 ppm. Tiap medium dipasang 7 buah paku selama 7 hari perendaman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi ekstrak limbah puntung rokok berpengaruh pada laju korosi dimana semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak, maka laju korosi semakin kecil. Nilai rata-rata laju korosi untuk perendaman tanpa ekstrak adalah 0,1052 mm/tahun. Sedangkan untuk konsentrasi 20, 40, 60,80,100 ppm berturut-turut adalah 0,0922 mm/thn, 0,0934 mm/thn, 0,0882 mm/thn, 0,0848 mm/thn, dan 0,0675 mm/thn dan laju korosi terkecil terjadi pada konsentrasi 100 ppm.
English Abstract
Corrosion is a natural destruction that caused a lot of losses to the metal and it is unavoidable. Therefore a many kinds of protection can be done in order to minimize corrosion especially to the tools that directly contact with the water. Using inhibitor is one of the most effective ways to reduced corrosion. But the inhibitor needed besides easy to obtain it also should be friendly to the environment. One of the safe inhibitor alternatives is cigarette waste extract. This research was aimed at examining the electivity of cigarette waste extract to decrease the rate of iron corrosion and determine the correlation of cigarette waste extract and concentrate in decreasing the rate of iron corrosion. The methodology used in determining the rate of iron corrosion was Weight Losses, the object tested were washed and then weighed to obtain their weight. Immersion variations applied to the objects tested were extract concentrate of 20, 40, 60,80, and 100 ppm. The objects tested arranged in a place and then examined within 7 days. The result obtained showed that extract concentrate affected to decreasing of corrosion rate where the higher concentrated of extract given to the objects tested, the smaller the rate of iron corrosion resulted. The average resulted value of corrosion rate for non extract immersion was 0,0152 mm/year, meanwhile extract immersion for 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 ppm consecutively 0,0922 mm/year, 0,0934 mm/year, 0,0882 mm/year, 0,0848 mm/year, 0,0675 mm/year.
