Abstract

Penyulingan minyak nilam dapat dilakukan dengan tiga cara, yaitu penyulingan dengan air (water distillation), penyulingan dengan air dan uap (steam-hydro distillation), dan penyulingan dengan uap (steam distillation). Dari ketiga metode distilasi tersebut, dengan menggunakan metode distilasi uap-air (steam-hydro distillation) dapat dihasilkan rendemen minyak nilam yang lebih bagus. Namun dengan menggunakan metode tersebut dibutuhkan waktu yang lama untuk mendapatkan minyak nilam yang bagus. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi rendemen minyak nilam antara lain: jenis tanaman, umur tanaman, waktu panen, perubahan bentuk daun, perlakuan pendahuluan sebelum penyulingan, dan teknik penyulingan (metode uap, metode air dan metode uap air), tekanan dalam drum penyulingan dan besarnya energi untuk perebusanOleh karena itu dalam melakukan penelitian microwave hydro-steam distillation, penelitian ini menggunakan teknologi yang lebih modern yaitu metode distilasi dengan microwave hydro-steam distillation. Bahan dalam penelitian ini adalah daun nilam yag sudah dikeringkan dengan kadar air sebesar 17%-24%. Variasi yang dilakukan di dalam penelitian ini adalah 140 Watt, 280 Watt, 420 Watt, 520 Watt, dan 700 Watt kemudian dibandingkan dengan konvensional.Hasil penelitian ini didapat bahwa semakin besar daya yang digunakan pada microwave pada hydro-steam distillation menggunakan microwave maka semakin cepat proses destilasi terjadi dan semakin banyak pula volume minyak nilam yang dihasilkan. Pada metode microwave steam distillation secara berturut turut pada daya 280 Watt, 420 Watt, 560 Watt, 700 Watt dan secara konvensional diperoleh rendemen minyak nilam sebesar 1.58 %, 1.79 %, 2.99 %, 3.5%, dan 3.3 % untuk konvensional .

English Abstract

Patchouli oil refining can be done in three ways, namely distillation with water (water distillation), distillation with water and steam (steam-hydro distillation), and distillation with steam (steam distillation). Of the three methods of distillation, steam distillation using water (hydro-steam distillation) can be produced patchouli oil yield better. However, by using the method takes a long time to get good patchouli oil. Factors affecting the yield of patchouli oil, among others: type of plant, plant age, time of harvest, leaf deformation, pretreatment before refining, and distillation techniques (methods of steam, water method and the method of water vapor), pressure in the drum refining and magnitude energy for boiling Therefore, in the conduct research microwave hydro-steam distillation, this study uses a more modern technology is a method of distillation with microwave hydro-steam distillation. Material in this study is yag dried patchouli leaves with water content of 17% -24%. Variations were performed in this study was 140 Watt, 280 Watt, 420 Watt, 520 Watt and 700 Watt then compared to conventional.The results of this study found that the greater the power used in the microwave on hydro-steam distillation using a microwave, the faster the process of distillation occurs and the more the volume of patchouli oil produced. In a microwave steam distillation method in consecutive at power 280 Watt, 420 Watt, 560 Watt, 700 Watt and conventionally obtained patchouli oil yield by 1:58%, 1.79%, 2.99%, 3.5%, and 3.3% for the conventional.
