Setiawan, Wahyu (2017) Macroscopic And Microscopic Quality Analysis Of Boer Goat Semen After Implemented Using Ei-Gun (Electrical Insemination Gun). Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
The purposes of this study was to analyze the quality of Boer goat semen including odor, colour, sperm mass motility, individual motility, viability, and abnormality after subjected to EI-Gun. The method of this research was case study. The material of this study was a Buck of Boer which its semen had collected using artificial vagina. The result show that the quality of Boer goat semen was still remain good when it compared to the control. Electrical insemination gun (EI-Gun) gave no negative impact on odor it was the same with control (specific). The colour was still the same with control sample. The mass motility (++) was slightly lower than control (+++). Individual motility (70 ± 0.00%) also decrease. The viabilty (71.67 ± 0.37%) was lower than control (72.34%), and abnormality (8.62 ± 0.54%) was still good if compare with control (8.23%). It conclude that the quality of Boer goat semen was still remain good after used of EI-Gun.
English Abstract
Boer goat is one of the important breed for meat production purposes. Boer goat has good meat production, and high carcass portion. Total carcass of Boer goat was around 50%. This productivity should be support by high reproduction performance. This reproduction performance could be increase by good reproduction management and technology. One of the most used is artificial insemination technology (AI). AI is the most applicable reproduction technology which has very satisfied result. This approvement make almost all of farmer rely on AI technology, although several farmer decide to use natural mating on their livestock reproduction management. But AI using frozen semen had several weakness such as Hi-tech basic operation include filling technology, sealing technology, and low temperature preservation using liquid nitrogen, which isn’t applicable for ordinary farmer. Another weakness of AI technology is rely on liquid nitrogen. The innovation of AI using fresh semen has been develop. This viii technology called Electrical Insemination Gun (EI-Gun). This technology applied fresh semen for AI. The purposes was to maximize the success rate by high fertility semen. The objective of this research was to analyzed the quality of Boer goat semen after passed EI-Gun. It was the only way to assess EI-Gun, and to decide is it woth to use or not. The used of EI-Gun hopefully could made the qulality of Boer goat semen remain good, especially on Macroscopic and microscopic examination. All those factor would effect on success of AI. The method of this research is case study analysis. The sample were analyzed using comparison between control, treated semen, and standard quality of Boer goat semen in Indonesia. The materials were a Boer buck which the semen had collected, Andromed extender, Artificial Vagina (AV), Microscop, object and cover glass, and micro pipete. The procedure were semen collection, semen dilution, treat the semen using EI-Gun, macroscpic analysis, and microscopic analysis. The variable that need to be analyzed are odor, colour, mass motility, individual motility, viability, and abnormality. Those variable will be analyzed on laboratory of Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Brawijaya University at Sumber sekar. The result show that the quality of Boer goat semen was still remain good when it compared to the control. Electrical insemination gun (EI-Gun) gave no negative impact on odor it was the same with control which mention that the odor was specific. The colour was still the same with control sample, it showed beige colour. The mass motility (++) was slightly lower than control sample (+++). Individual motility (70 ± 0.00%) also decrease, but it was still as good as standard. The viabilty (71.67 ± 0.37%) was lower than control (72.34%), and abnormality (8.62 ± 0.54%) was still good if compare with control (8.23%). It conclude that the quality of Boer goat semen was still remain good after used of EI-Gun.
