Abstract
Kebutuhan susu segar di Indonesia hanya mampu terpenuhi sebanyak 30% dikarenakan sapi di Indonesia mengalami penurunan produksi susu. Turunnya produksi susu dapat disebabkan oleh faktor internal dan faktor eksternal. Faktor internal meliputi bangsa, individu, keturunan, periode umur laktasi, lama laktasi, hormonal, siklus estrus dan kebuntingan. Sedangkan faktor eksternal antara lain musim, frekuensi pemerahan, kecepatan pemerahan, pergantian pemerah, pakan, obat dan penyakit. Sapi yang diperah harus sapi yang sehat, karena sapi yang sakit kemungkinan mengandung banyak bibit penyakit terutama sapi yang mengalami mastitis Salah satu penghambat peningkatan produksi susu adalah penyakit yang dapat secara langsung maupun tidak langsung menurunkan produksi susu. Penyakit radang ambing yang dikenal sebagai mastitis, merupakan masalah utama dalam tata laksana usaha peternakan sapi perah yang sangat merugikan, baik peternak sapi perah, industri pengolah susu dan konsumen (Sudarwanto dan Sudarnika, 2008). Mastitis merupakan penyakit infeksi kelenjar mammae yang disebabkan oleh mikroorganisme jenis bakteri. English Abstract
This research was carried out starting on January 13th, 2014 until February 13th, 2014 at the Laboratory Nutrition and Feed Faculty of Animal Husbandry University of Brawijaya Malang, in the Laboratory Organic Chemistry of The Science and Technology of the State Islamic University (UIN) Malang and Laboratory of Bacteriology of Faculty of Agriculture at University of Brawijaya Malang. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the methanol extract of leaves of cherry as antimicrobial against Staphylococcus aureus causes subclinical mastitis. The result of this study are expected to cherry leaf methanol extract can be used as an antimicrobial to prevent the incidence of mastitis in dairy cows. This research material is Staphylococcus aureus from Laboratory of Microbiology of Faculty of Medicine University of Brawijaya Malang. This research method was the experiment with a completely randomized design (CRD) and analyzed data using ANOVA. Treatments used included cherry leaf extract methanol 10% (P1), 20% (P2), 30% (P3), 40% (P4), cherry leaf water extract 20% (P5) as a control and Iodips 10% (P6) as a control. The variables measured were diameter of inhibition zone. The result of this study were cherry leaf water extract 20% was almost equivalent to Iodips, Iodips almost equivalent to cherry leaf methanol extract of 10%. The highest inhibition produced by the methanol extract of cherry leaf of 40%. ANOVA result showed that P> 0.05 meaning that there was no significant effect so that the cherry leaf methanol extract of 10% to 40% or equivalent iodips cherry leaf water extract 20% that can be used as natural antimicrobials to prevent mastitis in dairy cows. The conclusion of this study is the cherry leaf methanol extract of various concentrations can be used as an antimicrobial for mastitis desease.
