Abstract

Porositas tanah dan bahan organik memainkan peran penting dalam meningkatkan aktivitas biologi dan siklus air pada lahan pertanian (Kay and VandenBygaart, 2002). P erkebunan nanas PT. Great Giant Pineapple (GGP), di Lampung Tengah memiliki keragaman porositas tanah yang tinggi. Untuk meningkatkan dan mempertahankan porositas tanah pada perkebunan nanas, dilakukan penambahan dolomit dan kompos . Namun demikian ada trade off dari upaya tersebut, ternyata kondisi tersebut diduga merupakan habitat yang sesuai bagi perkembangan hama Symphilid . Symphilid ditemukan di sebagian besar tanah pertanian dan umumnya memakan bahan organik , t etapi Symphilid dapat menjadi hama bagi tanaman ketika memakan akar muda, sehingga fungsi akar dalam menyerap hara dan air menjadi terganggu (Grundy, 2013). M aka populasi Symphilid perlu dikendalikan . Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi total pori tanah (Porositas tanah) pada berbagai tekstur tanah dan berbagai kadar C org tanah serta mempelajari hubungan k orelasi p orositas tanah dengan p opulasi h ama Symphilid . Penelitian dilaksanakan pada musim penghujan yaitu bulan Februari 2014 sampai bulan Mei 2014 di perkebunan nanas PT. Great Giant Pineapple (GGP), Lampung Tengah pada 12 lahan yang dipilih berdasarkan pada variasi: (a) kelas tekstur tanah, dan (b) Umur bibit yang telah ditentukan (umur 3-6 bulan). Terdapat 2 faktor dalam penelitian ini. Faktor yang pertama adalah kelas tekstur tanah yang telah diukur secara kuantitatif dan faktor yang kedua adalah kedalaman pengamatan. Kedalaman pengamatan meliputi kedalaman 0-20 cm dan 20-40cm. V ariabel pengamatan adalah berat isi, berat jenis, dan C org tanah dan penghitungan populasi hama Symph lid. Pengukuran diulang sebanyak 3 kali. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan tidak seimbang ( Unbalanced Design )

English Abstract

Soil porosity and organic matter content play a critical role in the biological productivity and hydrology of agricultural soils (Kay and VandenBygaart, 2002). The Pineapple plantation PT. Great Giant Pineapple (GGP), in Central Lampung has a high diversity of soil porosity. To improve and maintain soil porosity on pineapple plantations, the addition of dolomite and compost. However there is a trade off of that effort, it turns out that the condition is thought to be suitable habitat for the development of Symphilid pest. The Symphilid found in most of the agricultural soil and generally feed on organic material, but Symphilid can be a pest to crops when eating the young roots, so the roots function in absorbing nutrients and water to be disrupted (Grundy, 2013). So the Symphilid population needs to be controlled. Purpose of the study is to evaluate the soil porosity at various soil textures and different levels of soil C org and studying about soil porosity correlation with the Symphilid pest population. The study was conducted in the rainy season in February 2014 until May 2014 in a pineapple plantation PT. Great Giant Pineapple (GGP), Central Lampung on 12 fields selected based on variation of: (a) soil texture classes, and (b) Age of seedlings which have been determined (age 3-6 months). There are two factors in this study. The first factor is the soil texture class that has been measured quantitatively and the second factor is the observation depth of 0-20 cm and 20-40cm. Observation variable is bulk density, particle density, soil C org content and the Symphilid pest populations. The measurement is repeated 3 times. The study uses an unbalanced design and conducted further tests using LSD test at 5% level. Results of the study is on Ultisols in PT. GGP has a high content of clay so that the soil porosity tends to be much more. C org and C org levels corrected (C ref ) is not associated with the soil porosity. The higher soil porosity then the number of pest populations Symphilid also tends to increase. On soil porosity <40% had an average of pest populations Symphilid by 17 pest/trap, the soil porosity between 40% - 50% have an average population Symphilid of 28 pest/trap and if the soil porosity> 50% average pest populations Symphilid up to 33 pest/trap. On the land of PT. GGP, sandy clay loam soil texture can be a suitable habitat for pests Symphilid in pineapple plantation than sandy loam soil texture.
