Abstract
Sebagai tanaman yang banyak tumbuh di Indonesia, kelapa memiliki manfaat untuk kesehatan. Air kelapa muda memiliki kandungan air dan elektrolit mirip cairan tubuh sehingga bisa digunakan untuk menggantikan cairan tubuh yang hilang. Kandungannya yang rendah glukosa juga menjadikannya aman untuk diberikan pada pasien diabetes melitus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek penurunan LDL dari pemberian air kelapa muda terhadap tikus (Rattus norvegicus) galur Wistar model diabetes melitus yang diinduksi aloksan. Studi ini menggunakan metode randomized post test only controlled group design, hewan coba dipilih secara acak kemudian dibagi dalam 4 kelompok, yakni kelompok kontrol negatif, kelompok kontrol positif (diinjeksi aloksan), kelompok P1 (insulin), dan kelompok P2 (air kelapa muda 4 ml selama 14 hari). Dari pemeriksaan kadar LDL serum tikus didapatkan hasil bahwa : terdapat peningkatan kadar LDL serum yang signifikan (p<0,05) pada kelompok kontrol positif dibanding dengan kelompok kontrol negatif. Sementara itu, didapatkan peningkatan kadar LDL serum yang tidak signifikan (p>0,05) pada kelompok terapi air kelapa muda (P2) dibanding kelompok kontrol positif. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian air kelapa muda belum berpotensi menurunkan kadar LDL pada tikus normal.
English Abstract
As a kind of plant that is widely grown in Indonesia, coconut tree has so many health benefits. Tender coconut water is similar to body fluids and electrolytes that can be used to replace loss of body fluids. It contains low glucose that makes it safe to be administered to patients with diabetes mellitus. This study aims to determine the LDL serum lowering effect of tender coconut water administration to diabetes melitus Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) which were induced by alloxan. The study used a randomized post test only controlled group design, the experimental animals were randomly selected and then divided into 4 groups, namely the negative control group, positive control group (alloxan-injected), group P1 (insulin), and group P2 (4 ml tender coconut water for 14 days). From the analysis of serum LDL levels in rats, it was shown that : there was a significant increase (p<0,05) in serum LDL levels of positive control group compared with negative control group. In addition to this, there was an insignificant increase (p>0,05) in serum LDL level of tender coconut water treatment group compared with the positive control group. It can be concluded that the administration of tender coconut water has no potential in lowering the levels of serum LDL in normal mice.
