Abstract

Mastitis merupakan kasus yang sebagian besar terjadi pada wanita selama masa nifas dan paling sering disebabkan oleh Staphylococcus aureus. Staphylococcus aureus terkenal akan kemampuannya untuk menjadi resisten terhadap antibiotik. Untuk itu, diperlukan terapi alternatif yang efektif dan efisien tetapi tetap berorientasi pada standar medis. Daun tahi ayam (Lantana camara L.) mengandung senyawa aktif flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, terpenoid dan minyak atsiri yang diduga memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah membuktikan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun tahi ayam mempunyai efek antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus secara in vitro. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode difusi sumuran dengan parameter yang diamati adalah diamater zona hambat. Sampel bakteri Staphylococcus aureus diperoleh dari pus penderita. Konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun tahi ayam yang digunakan adalah 10%; 20%; 30%; 40%; dan 50% v/v. Hasil uji One Way ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan zona hambat yang signifikan setelah pemberian ekstrak etanol daun tahi ayam (p = 0,000). Uji korelasi Pearson menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan signifikan antara pemberian ekstrak etanol daun tahi ayam dengan zona hambat yang terbentuk (p = 0,000) dan semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak maka semakin lebar zona hambat yang dihasilkan (R = 0,793). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah ekstrak etanol daun tahi ayam mempunyai efek antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus.

English Abstract

Mastitis is a case which mostly occurs in women during the postpartum period and the most common is caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Staphylococcus aureus is known for its ability to become resistant to antibiotics. For that, we need an alternative therapy that is effective, efficient but remains refer to medical standards. Tahi ayam leave (Lantana camara L.) has active essence inside such as flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, terpenoids and essential oils which are assumed have the antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the ethanol extract of tahi ayam leaves as an antibacterial againts Staphylococcus aureus using in vitro method. This study uses well diffusion method to determine the inhibition zone. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria samples are derived from patient’s pus with infection. The concentration of ethanol extract of tahi ayam leaves are 10%; 20%; 30%; 40%; and 50% v/v. The result of One Way ANOVA test shows that there is significant difference in the growth of Staphylococcus aureus after giving the ethanol extract of tahi ayam leaves (p = 0.000). The Pearson correlation test also shows that there is a significant relation between ethanol extract of tahi ayam leaves with inhibition zone (p = 0.000) and the higher concentration of the extract makes the greater of inhibition zone (R = 0.793). The conclusion of this study is the ethanol extract of tahi ayam leaves has antibacterial effect to Staphylococcus aureus.
