Dewanti, KesumaDIW (2014) Uji Efek Antibakteri Ekstrak Etanol Daun Salam (Syzygium polyanthum) terhadap Streptococcus pyogenes secara In Vitro. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
Endodontic infection is a polymicrobial infection of the pulp and root canals, mainly caused by Streptococcus pyogenes . Bay leaf ( Syzygium polyanthum ) have antibacterial agents contain essential oils , flavonoids , and tannins . This study aimed to determine the antibacterial effects of bay leaves extracts against Streptococcus pyogenes in vitro . The design research is a true experiment - post test only control group design using dilution agar method and dilution tube method. Concentration of bay leaves extract which used was 0,5 % , 1 % , 1,5 % , 2 % , 2,5 % , and 3 % . The data were statistically analyzed using one- way ANOVA test , Pearson correlation test and regression test with α = 0,05 . The results showed that the ethanol extract of bay leaves have antibacterial effect on the growth of Streptococcus pyogenes with MIC value is 2% and MBC value is 2,5%, as well as the higher concentration of ethanol extract of bay leaves , the lower the growth of the bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes . The conclusion of this study is ethanol extract of bay leaves have antibacterial effects against Streptococcus pyogenes in vitro . Based on these results , it is necessary to investigate the main antibacterial substance of bay leaves , as well as further studies in vivo and in humans.
