Abstract
Karies merupakan suatu penyakit pada jaringan keras gigi, yaitu email, dentin dan sementum yang disebabkan aktivitas mikroorganisme yang ada dalam suatu karbohidrat yang diragikan. Salah satu mikroorganisme penyebab karies yang paling dominan adalah Streptococcus mutans. Teh putih (Camellia sinensis) dan teh hijau (Camellia sinensis) memiliki kandungan zat aktif yang dapat berfungsi sebagai antibakteri berupa katekin, dan yang paling dominan adalah epigalokatekin golat (EGCG). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan antara pemberian ekstrak etanol teh putih (Camellia sinensis) dan ekstrak etanol teh hijau (Camellia sinensis) terhadap pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans secara In vitro dengan metode difusi sumuran. Penelitian ini merupakan rancangan eksperimental murni dengan Post Test Only Control Group Design. Konsentrasi ekstrak etanol teh putih dan ekstrak etanol teh hijau yang digunakan adalah 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, dan 100%. Analisis data menggunakan uji One Way ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh signifikan dari pemberian berbagai konsentrasi kedua ekstrak etanol teh putih dan ekstrak etanol teh hijau terhadap zona hambat bakteri Streptococcus mutans (p < 0,05). Uji Korelasi Pearson menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang kuat dan berbanding lurus antara konsentrasi kedua ekstrak dengan zona hambat Streptococcus mutans (0,606 pada teh putih dan 0,643 pada teh hijau). Uji T tidak berpasangan menunjukkan ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara ekstrak etanol teh putih dengan ekstrak etanol teh hijau; diameter zona hambatan Streptococcus mutans pada ekstrak etanol teh putih lebih besar daripada diameter zona hambatan Streptococcus mutans pada ekstrak etanol teh hijau.
English Abstract
Caries is a disease of the hard tissues of the tooth, i.e email, dentin and cementum caused by the activity of microorganisms present in a fermented carbohydrates. One of the most dominant microorganism that cause caries is Streptococcus mutans. White tea and green tea contain active substances which function as an antibacterial, which is Katekin, and the most dominant substance is epigalokatekin golat (EGCG). The purpose of this experiment is to know the difference between the effect of ethanolic extract of white tea and ethanolic extract of green tea on Streptococcus mutans growth In vitro study using well diffusion method. This experiment is a true experimental design with Post Test Only Control Group Design. The concentration of ethanolic extract of white tea and ethanolic extract of green tea used are 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, and 100%. The statistic test using One Way ANOVA test shows significant effect of various concentrations of both ethanolic extract of white tea and ethanolic extract of green tea given, towards Streptococcus mutans inhibition zone (p < 0,05). Pearson correlation test shows a strong and direct relationship between the concentration of both extract towards Streptococcus mutans inhibition zone (0,606 in white tea and 0,643 in green tea). Independent T test shows that there is a significant difference between ethanolic extract of white tea and ethanolic extract of green tea; Streptococcus mutans’ inhibition zone caused by ethanolic extract of white tea is greater than Streptococcus mutans’ inhibition zone caused by ethanolic extract of green tea.
