Abstract

Persaingan pada produk kosmetik menyebabkan produsen menghalalkan segala cara termasuk menambahkan bahan berbahaya seperti merkuri. Merkuri ditambahkan ke dalam kosmetik supaya kulit tampak lebih cerah. Pada penelitian sebelumnya dengan komposisi tentang pengembangan metode sensor potensiometri menggunakan elektroda selektif ion dengan komposisi kitosan 3% polivinylchloride (PVC) 39%, dan dioktilftalat (DOP) 58% dilarutkan dalam tetrahidrofuran (THF) dengan perbandingan 1:3 (b/v), namun belum dilakukan uji pengaruh ion asing terhadap pengukuran kadar merkuri pada kosmetik. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah melakukan uji pengaruh ion asing As(III), Pb2+, dan Cd2+ terhadap kinerja ESI merkuri (Hg2+) tipe kawat terlapis berbasis kitosan. Ion As(III), Pb2+, dan Cd2+ digunakan karena merupakan logam berat pencemar kosmetik yang sering terkandung pada kosmetik. Uji pengaruh ion asing pada kinerja ESI Hg2+ dilakukan dengan metode larutan tercampur. Pengukuran dilakukan sesuai dengan kondisi optimal pengukuran dari penelitian sebelumnya yaitu pada pH 6 dan suhu ± 25 ̊C. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa harga koefisien selektivitas membran terhadap ion Hg2+ dibandingkan dengan ion As(III), Pb2+, dan Cd2+ (Ki,j) < 1 sehingga ESI merkuri berbasis kitosan ini bersifat selektif terhadap ion Hg2+ > Pb2+ > Cd2+ > As(III) secara berturut-turut.

English Abstract

Competition in cosmetic products have caused several producers introduce dangerous substances of mercury. Mercury is added to the cosmetic products in order to make the skin looks brighter. On previous research, mercury ion selectice electrode (Hg(II)-ISE) has been successfully developed as sensor using membrane made of chitosan : polyvinylchloride (PVC) : dioctylphtalate (DOP) with ratio of 3 : 39 : 58 (w/w) disolved in tetrahydrofuran (THF) with 1:3 (w/v) ratio. This sensor has not been tested for the effect of interferring ions in measurring the consentration of mercury. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of interferring ions (As(III), Pb2+, and Cd2+) to the Hg(II)-ISE performance in measuring mercury concentration. As(III), Pb2+, and Cd2+ ions are chosen because they are the common contaminants in the cosmetics. The interferring ion test to the performance of Hg2+ ISE was conducted using mixed solution method, under measurement conditions is based on the optimal conditions of previous research, i.e. at pH 6 and temperatura of ± 25 ̊C. The result showed that the selectivity coefficient (Ki,j) was < 1 against As(III), Pb2+, and Cd2+ ions, which means that this ISE is selective to Hg2+ > Pb2+ > Cd2+ > As(III) respectively.
