Abstract
Candida albicans merupakan jamur penyebab kandidiasis pada rongga mulut. Saat ini telah banyak dikembangkan obat antifungi untuk penyakit tersebut termasuk antifungi herbal. Salah satu yang diduga mengandung bahan aktif antifungi adalah daun kayu manis. Salah satu kandungan daun kayu manis yang memiliki efek antifungi adalah eugenol dan sinamaldehid. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan bahwa ekstrak daun kayu manis memiliki efek antifungi terhadap Candida albicans secara in vitro. Penelitian ini merupakan suatu penelitian eksperimental yang dilakukan terhadap Candida albicans dengan metode dilusi tabung. Kelompok perlakuan yaitu kelompok jamur yang diberi ekstrak daun kayu manis dengan konsentrasi 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, dan 6%. Kelompok kontrol terdiri dari kontrol jamur sebagai kontrol negatif dan kontrol ekstrak daun kayu manis sebagai kontrol positif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Kadar Hambat Minimum (KHM) tidak dapat diamati, sedangkan Kadar Bunuh Minimum (KBM) diperoleh pada konsentrasi ekstrak 6%. Analisis data menggunakan One-way ANOVA dengan α = 0,05 menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan efek antifungi yang signifikan pada tiap perlakuan konsentrasi ekstrak daun kayu manis terhadap jumlah koloni jamur Candida albicans. Uji korelasi Pearson menunjukkan hubungan semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak daun kayu manis yang diberikan, maka semakin rendah jumlah koloni Candida albicans yang tumbuh. Kesimpulan pada penelitian ini yaitu ekstrak daun kayu manis mempunyai efek antifungi terhadap Candida albicans dengan KBM 6%.
English Abstract
Candida albicans is a fungus that causes candidiasis in oral cavity. Nowadays a lot of antifungal agents have been developed, including herbal antifungal agent. One of the herb that suppose to have an antifungal activity is cinnamon leaves. Cinnamon leaves is claimed to contain eugenol and cinnamaldehyde in which has antifungal effect. This research is conducted to prove the antifungal effect of cinnamon leaves extract on Candida albicans using in vitro method. This research is an experimental study which is carried out to Candida albicans with tube dilution method. The treated groups are fungi which are given the cinnamon leaves extract with range of concentration as follows 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, and 6%. The control groups includes fungi as negative control and cinnamon leaves extract as positive control. The result indicated that minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) can’t be found and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) is found at 6%. Results of One-way ANOVA with α = 0,05, showed significant difference among each concentration of cinnamon leaves extract related to the growth of colonies of Candida albicans. Pearson correlation test showed that the higher concentration of cinnamon leaves extract, the less number of colony growth. The conclusion of this study is that cinnamon leaves extract has antifungal effect against Candida albicans with MFC is 6%.
