Abstract
Karies merupakan suatu penyakit pada jaringan keras gigi, yaitu email, dentin dan sementum yang disebabkan aktivitas mikroorganisme yang ada dalam suatu karbohidrat yang diragikan. Mikroorganisme yang paling dominan adalah bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Penelitian ini menggunakan salah satu tipe mangga yaitu mangga gadung. Biji mangga gadung (Mangifera indica L.) mengandung zat aktif yang mempunyai efek antibakteri berupa tannin, vanillin, alkaloid, dan flavonoid. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui adanya efek ekstrak etanol biji mangga gadung (Mangifera indica L.) sebagai antibakteri terhadap Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro dengan metode agar difusi disk. Penelitian ini merupakan rancangan eksperimental murni dengan menggunakan metode difusi agar disk. Konsentrasi ekstrak etanol biji mangga gadung yang digunakan adalah 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, dan 100%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada konsentrasi 6,25% sudah mampu menghambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans dengan rata-rata diameter zona hambat sebesar 17,7 mm. Analisis data menggunakan uji One Way ANOVA dan korelasi-regresi. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh signifikan dari pemberian berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak etanol biji mangga gadung terhadap zona hambat pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus mutans (p<0,05). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah ekstrak etanol biji mangga gadung (Mangifera indica L.) memiliki efek antibakteri terhadap Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro pada konsentrasi 6,25%. Terdapat hubungan positif antara konsentrasi ekstrak etanol biji mangga gadung (Mangifera indica L.) terhadap zona hambat pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus mutans yaitu semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak etanol biji mangga gadung (Mangifera indica L.) maka semakin besar diameter zona hambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans yang terbentuk.
English Abstract
Caries is a disease of the hard tissues of the tooth, i.e email, dentin and cementum caused by the activity of microorganisms that present in a fermented carbohydrates. The most dominant microorganism is Streptococcus mutans. This experiment used one of the type of mango called Gadung. Mango (Mangifera indica L.) seed contain active substances that have antibacterial effects such as tannins, vanillin, alkaloids, and flavonoids. The purpose of this experiment is to know the effect of ethanol extract of mango (Mangifera indica L.) seed as an antibacterial against Streptococcus mutans in vitro by agar disc diffusion method. This experiment used a true experimental design that used agar disc diffusion method. The concentration of the ethanol extract of mango seed are 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, and 100%. The results showed that at a concentration of 6,25% is capable of inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans with an average inhibition zone diameter is 17,7 mm. The statistic test using One Way ANOVA and correlation-regression. The statistic result showed significant effect of administration various concentrations of ethanol extract of mango seed on inhibition zone of Streptococcus mutans growth (p<0,05). The conclusion of this experiment is the ethanol extract of mango (Mangifera indica L.) seed has antibacterial effects against Streptococcus mutans in vitro at a concentration of 6,25%. There is a positive correlation between the concentration of ethanol extract of mango (Mangifera indica L.) seed against inhibition zone of Streptococcus mutans growth that is the higher concentration of ethanol extract of mango (Mangifera indica L.) seed, the greater diameter of inhibition zone of Streptococcus mutans growth.
