Abstract

Escherichia coli adalah salah satu bakteri patogen penyebab penyakit infeksi dengan angka kejaian yang tinggi di seluruh dunia. Salah satu penyakit infeksi akibat E.coli adalah diare yang merupakan penyakit dengan angka mortalitas dan morbiditas yang tinggi. Diare akibat infeksi biasa diobati dengan antibiotik. Namun belakangan ini, banyak bakteri yang telah mengalami resistensi terhadap beberapa antibiotik yang biasa digunakan, sehingga perlu pengembangan obat antibiotik baru yang salah satunya berasal dari tanaman. Daun rosemary mengandung senyawa antioksidan flavonoid , tannin, carnosic acid dan carnosol , minyak esensial rosmarinic acid serta berbagai komponen aktif lain yang dapat berperan sebagai antibakteri terhadap berbagai bakteri, termasuk E.coli . Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek antimikroba ekstrak etanol daun rosemary terhadap E.coli secara in vitro . Desain penelitian ini adalah desain eksperimental laboratorium. Ekstrak etanol menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 96%. Metode dilusi tabung digunakan untuk mengetahui Kadar Hambat Minimal (KHM) dan Kadar Bunuh Minimal (KBM). English Abstract

Escherichia coli is one of pathogenic bacteria that cause infectious disease with high level of incidence around the world. One of the diseases that is caused by E.coli is diarrhea which has high level of mortality and morbidity. Diarrhea that is caused by infection is ussually treated by antibiotics. But nowadays, many bacteries have been resistant to some antibiotics ussually given. Rosemary leaf contains antioxidant compound like flavonoid s , tannin, carnosic acid and carnosol, essential oil like rosmarinic acid also many other active compounds which is able to act as antibacterial to some of bacterias, including E.coli . This study is intend ed to know antimicrobial effect of ethanol extract of rosemary leaf towards E.coli in vitro . This study is using laboratory experimental design. Ethanol extract of rosemary laf is obtained by extraction with maseration method , using 96% ethanol as solvent. Tube dilution test is used to observe Minimum Inhibition Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). Final e xtract concentration
