Abstract

Aedes sp. is an ubiquitous species and abundant in tropical and subtropical countries. Prevalence of filariasis in some areas in Indonesia is still high.To eradicate the mosquito Aedes sp . which is one of the vectors of filariasis are also expected to tackle the high prevalence of filariasis in Indonesia. Eradication of Aedes sp using insecticidal chemical can cause health problems. Organic insecticides from plant-degradable has been known to be safe. Pandanus amaryllifolius may have the the effect of insecticide because it contains flavonoid, alkaloid and saponin. The purpose of this research was to know the potency of Pandanus amaryllifolius leaves hexane extract as insecticide against Aedes sp. Hexane will be use as a solvent to dissolve the extract because it is thought to be more effective compare to other chemical solvents. This is because hexane is a non polar substance. Hence, Pandanus amaryllifolius can dissolve more in this substance as Pandanus amaryllifolius content also is a non polar substance. Thus, that is why Pandanus amaryllifolius hexane extract can be use as an insecticide on Aedes sp . This was a laboratory research with a true experimental design-post test only control group design. The samples used were Aedes sp. while the concentration of the extract tested was 5%, 10% and 15%. The number of observations of dead mosquitoes was then calculated within 1 hours, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours, 5 hours, 6 hours, 7 hours, 8 hours and 24 hours. From these results we can conclude that the Pandanus amaryllifolius leaves hexane extract has potential as an insecticide against Aedes sp and the greater the concentration of the greater potential as an insecticide and the longer the contact time of the higher potency of these insecticides.
