Abstract

Saliva adalah sekelompok cairan yang kompleks dalam rongga mulut. Salah satu mikroorganisme yang menyebabkan pH saliva menjadi asam adalah Streptococcus mutans. Ekstrak etanol kulit tomat (Solanum lycopersicum) mengandung flavonoid, alkaloid dan saponin yang mampu menembus dinding sel kemudian mengganggu permeabilitas membran sel, menghambat sintesis dinding sel, menghambat fungsi membran sitoplasma sehingga pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans terganggu. Tujuan penelitian ini Mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak etanol kulit tomat (Solanum lycopersicum) terhadap perubahan pH saliva buatan dan absorbansi saliva yang diinduksi Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro. Penelitian ini menggunakan True Experimental Design dengan pendekatan Posttest Control Grup Design. Konsentrasi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 60%, 70%, 80% dan 90%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada perbedaan nilai pH dan nilai absorbansi saliva buatan yang telah diinduksi Streptococcus mutans dan ditambahakan dengan ekstrak etanol kulit tomat terhadap kelompok kontrol secara in vitro.Uji Kruskal Wallis dan uji One-Way ANOVA menunjukkan nilai signifikansi 0,000 (p < 0,05). Sehingga dapat disimpulkan terdapat perbedaan nilai pH dan absorbansi saliva buatan yang signifikan antara kelompok kontrol dan perlakuan.

English Abstract

Saliva is a complex fluid in the oral cavity. One of the microorganisms that causes the increase of saliva’s acidity is Streptococcus mutans. The extract of tomato skin (Solanum lycopersicum) contains flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins that can penetrate through the cell wall and then interfere with the permeability of the cell membrane, inhibit cell wall synthesis, and also inhibit the function of the cytoplasmic membrane so that the growth of Streptococcus mutans is disrupted. The purpose of this experiment is to understand the effect of tomato skin (Solanum lycopersicum) ethanol extract on the pH scale and the absorbance score of Streptococcus mutans-induced artificial saliva in vitro. The method which is used here is the True Experimental Design, post test control group design. The concentrations used in this study were 60%, 70%, 80% and 90%. The results have shown differences in pH scale and absorbance score of Streptococcus mutans-induced artificial saliva between treatment group (added with tomato skin ethanol extract) and control group.The data which were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis and One Way ANOVA test showed the significance value of 0,000 (p<0,05).
