Abstract

Perbankan yang merupakan sub-sistem dalam perekonomian suatu negara berperan penting dalam menggerakkan sektor ekonomi. Bank Umum Syariah (BUS) yang baru berkembang di Indonesia memberikan peran yang berbeda dari bank umum lainnya karena memberikan alternatif jasa keuangan dengan skema yang berbeda dengan bank umum konvensional dan masih memiliki potensi untuk terus berkembang karena populasi penduduk muslim di Indonesia amatlah besar. Pentingnya peran BUS menjadikan analisis mengenai faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi profitabilitas sebagai bentuk evaluasi akhir manajemen BUS tersebut penting untuk dilakukan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi profitabilitas BUS di Indonesia. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kuantitatif dengan analisis menggunakan analisis regresi data panel. Adapun Fixed Effect Model merupakan model yang terpilih setelah dilakukan uji Chow. Secara serempak, faktor bank-specific yang terdiri dari variabel asset size, likuiditas dan operational efficiency serta faktor makroekonomi yang terdiri dari variabel inflasi dan gross domestic product, berpengaruh signifikan terhadap profitabilitas BUS di Indonesia. Dari 5 hipotesis penelitian, hanya variabel asset size yang tidak sesuai dengan hipotesis. Hal ini karena persentase peningkatan aset BUS tidak diikuti dengan persentase peningkatan labanya sehingga naiknya asset size tidak turut menaikkan profitabilitas BUS di Indonesia. Variabel likuiditas dan gross domestic product berpengaruh positif terhadap profitabilitas sedangkan variabel operational efficiency dan inflasi berpengaruh negatif terhadap profitabilitas BUS di Indonesia.

English Abstract

Banking as a sub-system in country’s economy plays important role to improve economic activity. prohibitation of interest as a unique characteristic in sharia bank and majority muslim population in Indonesia bring potential growing at a rapid speed to sharia bank in Indonesia. For that reason, evaluation of sharia bank management’s decision, discribed by its profitability, brings important role to be conducted. And furthermore, It’s important too to analyze determinant factors of Sharia Bank Profitability in Indonesia. Aim of this study’s to analyze determinan factor of sharia bank in Indonesia, period 2009 until 2013. This study uses quantitative approach with panel data regression analysis fixed effect model to examine the study hypothesis. The empirical study showes that simultaneously bank-specific factor, that is, asset size, liquidity and operational efficiency and macroekonomic factor, that is, inflation and gross domestic product, significantly affect sharia bank’s profitability in Indonesia. From 5 hypotheses in this study, asset size’s not match with study hypothesis . The reason is the rise percentage of sharia bank asset doesn’t followed by the rise percentage of profit they get. So, when asset size rising, it doesn’t followed by the rise of sharia bank’s profitability. Liquidity and gross domestic product positively affects sharia bank’s profitability while operational efficiency and inflation negatively affects sharia bank’s profitability.
