Abstract
Orang menggunakan bahasa untuk berkomunikasi dengan orang lain dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Dalam berkomunikasi, ada dua bentuk bagaimana bahasa digunakan, yaitu secara lisan dan tertulis. Secara lisan dapat kita ketahui melalui percakapan. Sedangkan secara tertulis yaitu formal atau non-formal, seperti pada majalah, koran, novel, dsb. Majalah merupakan salah satu media untuk mendapatkan informasi. Seperti majalah pariwisata dimana orang-orang dapat mendapatkan informasi tentang tempat, hotel maupun informasi tentang perjalanan pariwisata. Majalah-majalah tersebut disuguhkan dalam bahasa Inggris. Penggunaan bahasa Inggris pada majalah pariwisata umumnya tidak mudah untuk dipahami karena penggunaan kata-kata khusus yang belum diketahui oleh pembaca. Masalah yang dibahas dalam studi ini adalah (1) Jenis pembentukan kata apakah yang digunakan dalam istilah pariwisata pada majalah “Black Meetings & Tourism”? (2) Apakah arti dari istilah-istilah pariwisata yang digunakan pada majalah “Black Meetings & Tourism”? Pada studi ini, penulis tertarik untuk menganalisa proses pembentukan kata pada istilah-istilah pariwisata. Ini dikarenakan proses pembentukan kata adalah proses bagaimana pembentukan kata-kata baru dari penggunaan kata-kata yang sudah ada (Yule 1985). Studi ini bertujuan untuk meneliti jenis pembentukan kata dalam dunia pariwisata dan untuk mengetahui arti dari istilahistilah tersebut di majalah “Black Meetings & Tourism” edisi Nov/Des 2012. Penulis menggunakan teori Yule (1985) dan O’Grady (1996) untuk menganalisa data. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil pada studi ini ditemukan 30 proses pembentukan kata pada majalah “Black Meetings & Tourism” edisi Nov/Des 2012. Jenis proses pembentukan katanya adalah Compounding (19 istilah), Derivation (5 istilah), Borrowing (4 istilah), Clipping (1 istilah) dan Acronym (1 istilah). Penulis menemukan bahwa Compounding merupakan proses yang paling dominan dalam proses pembentukan kata dalam istilah pariwisata. Sehingga, penulis dapat menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat banyak kata-kata baru yang terbentuk melalui proses pembentukan kata pada majalah “Black Meetings & Tourism” edisi Nov/Des 2012. Hasil dari studi ini diharapkan dapat memberikan arti untuk peneliti selanjutnya yang tertarik untuk mempelajari morfologi khusunya proses pembentukan kata. Mereka diharapkan untuk melakukan studi serupa dengan menggunakan media lain seperti film, Koran dan majalah lain atau mungkin dengan menggunakan istilah-istilah lain seperti istilah mode, olahraga, dsb.
English Abstract
People use language in their daily life to communicate to each others. In communicating, there are two forms of how language can be produced, namely oral and written forms. We can easily know the oral form of language through conversation in daily life. Meanwhile, the written form can be found in either formal or informal one, for example in the magazine, newspaper, novel, etc. Magazine is one way to get information. Like tourism magazine, people get information about place, hotel and many others things about traveling. Most of them offer news in English.The use of English in tourism magazine normally is not easily understood because there are some specific words that the readers do not know before. The problems of this study are (1) What kinds of word formation processes are found in traveling terms in “Black Meetings & Tourism” magazine? (2) What are the meaning of the words found in traveling terms in “Black Meetings & Tourism” magazine? In this study, the writer is interested in analyzing word formation processes of traveling terms. It is because word formation processes is a way of forming new words or terms from the use of old words (Yule, 1985).This study is aimed to investigate the kind word formation processes of traveling terms and find out the meaning of the words formation processes of traveling terms in “Black Meetings & Tourism” magazine Nov/Dec 2012 edition. The writer uses Yule’s theory (1985)and O’Grady’s theory (1996) to analyze the data. This study used descriptive qualitative approach. The result of the study are 30 word formation processes of traveling terms found in “Black Meetings & Tourism” magazine Nov/Dec 2012 edition. The word formation of traveling terms are Compounding (19 terms), Derivation (5 terms), Borrowing (4 terms), Clipping (1 term) and Acronym (1 term). The writer found that Compounding is the most dominant process used in forming the traveling terms. Therefore, the writer can conclude that there are some new words created through word formation processes found in ‘Black Meetings & Tourism” magazine Nov/Dec 2012. The result of the study is expected to give significance to the next researchers who are interested in studying morphology especially about word formation processes. They are expected to conduct similar studies by using other media such as movie, newspaper and other magazine or maybe by using any other terms such as fashion, sports, etc.
