Abstract
Sebagai makhluk sosial, manusia membutuhkan bahasa karena bahasa adalah sarana untuk komunikasi antar sesama. Bahasa dalam kehidupan sosial sangatlah bervariasi. Salah satu bentuk variasi bahasa adalah register. Register adalah bahasa yang digunakan dalam suatu lingkup, pekerjaan, dan situasi tertentu. Bahasa yang digunakan oleh komentator live text commentary, mucikari, dan penyiar radio adalah beberapa contoh register. Studi tentang register bisa dianalisa dari beberapa aspek, misalnya dari kosa kata, fitur bahasa, karakteristik fonologi, variabel register, dan lain lain. Dalam studi ini, peneliti menganalisa register yang digunakan di live text commentary pada pertandingan final Euro 2012 antara Spanyol dan Italia. Ada tiga rumusan masalah yang diajukan: (1) Kosa kata register apa sajakah yang digunakan di live text commentary, (2) Apakah arti dari kosa kata register yang digunakan di live text commentary, (3) Fitur bahasa apa sajakah yang digunakan di live text commentary pada pertandingan final Euro 2012 antara spanyol dan Italia. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk mendeskripsikan fenomena yang dipelajari dengan jelas dan sistematis. Data hanya diambil dari live text commentary yang di unggah di situs olahraga BBC. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa kosa kata register di live text commentary umumnya mempunyai arti berbeda jika digunakan di dalam lingkup, pekerjaan, dan situasi tertentu. Sementara beberapa register diantaranya adalah kosa kata asing yang tidak pernah digunakan kecuali di sepakbola. Hasil studi juga menunjukkan bahwa live text commentary seringkali menggunakan beberapa fitur bahasa, misalnya pengurangan kata dalam kalimat dan bentuk pasif. Dari kedua fitur tersebut, komentator lebih sering menggunakan pengurangan kata dalam kalimat. Penggunaan ini bukan karena kurangnya kompetensi seorang komentar bola tapi ada faktor lain misalnya, untuk mempercepat penyampaian komentar. Peneliti menyarankan kepada mahasiswa bahasa Inggris untuk menganalisa studi register lebih mendalam karena studi ini belum mencakup aspek-aspek register secara keseluruhan. Peneliti juga berharap agar peneliti selanjutnya membandingkan antara register yang digunakan di live text commentary dengan register yang digunakan di live oral commentary.
English Abstract
People as social humans need a language to communicate with others. They need it since language is a device for communication. In society, language is remarkably varied. One of the varieties of language is register. Register is a language used in particular field, profession, and situation. The language of football commentary, pimp, and radio broadcaster are considered as examples of register language. The study of register can be conducted from many aspects such as, the vocabulary, syntactic features, phonology characteristics, register variable, etc. In this study, the researcher conducted the register used in live text football commentary on Euro 2012 final football match between Spain and Italy. There are three problems of the study which were proposed: (1) What the registers are used in live text commentary, (2) What the meanings of registers are used in live text commentary, (3) What the linguistic features of register are used in live text commentary on Euro 2012 final football match between Spain and Italy. This study used qualitative approach in relation to the use of clear and systematic description about the phenomena being studied. The data were only taken from live text commentaries which were uploaded on BBC sport website. This study revealed that the registers used in live text commentary commonly have different meaning when it relates to other field, profession and situation. Some registers are unfamiliar words which do not exist in other field outside the football. This study also revealed that live text football commentary usually uses features such as, syntactic reduction and passive voice. From both features, the commentator uses the syntactic reduction more frequently. The reduction and passive voice are not due to the insufficient competence of the commentator. Nevertheless, there are some reasons behind such as, to build extra speed in delivering the event. The researcher suggests the English Department students conduct the deeper study about register since this study did not cover all aspects of register yet. He also hopes that the next researcher will conduct the comparison study about register used in live text commentary with that used in live oral commentary.
