Abstract
Pada dasarnya, manusia mengujarkan ujaran sebagai sebuah tindakan. Itu berarti mereka dapat melakukan apapun melalui ucapan dan kalimat seperti permintaan, perintah, pernyataan, permintaan maaf, dan berterima kasih. Untuk mengungkapkan ide, manusia tidak hanya menghasilkan ucapan yang mengandung struktur tata bahasa saja, tetapi juga melakukan tindakan melalui ucapan mereka. Tindak tutur merupakan bidang linguistik yang menganalisa tentang fenomena bahasa. Tindak tutur juga dapat ditemukan dalam ujaran yang terdapat dalam film. Karena itu, penulis memilih film “Letters to God” sebagai obyek penelitian. Bahasa yang digunakan oleh pemeran utama mencerminkan fenomena sosial ketika mereka marah, senang, sedih, ataupun terganggu. Sebagai tambahan, bahasa yang digunakan oleh pemeran utama sangat sederhana. Tetapi, itu semua memiliki dampak yang besar untuk mengetahui respon pendengar. Penelitian ini berusaha menemukan tindak lokusi dan ilokusi yang digunakan oleh pemeran utama dalam film “Letters to God”. Rumusan masalah penelitian ini difokuskan pada tipe tindakan lokusi dan ilokusi berdasarkan teori Levinson dan Searle. Metode kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dalam membuat penelitian ini. Untuk menganalisa data, konteks dari tiap-tiap adegan dan penulisan surat dijelaskan di awal. Kemudian, data dijelaskan dan di analisis menggunakan teori tindak tutur. Berdasarkan penemuan dari penelitian ini, tindak tutur yang digunakan oleh pemeran utama berdasarkan tipe ilokusi dapat digambarkan sebagai berikut: Pertama, kebanyakan pembicara menggunakan representatives untuk mempresentasikan suatu kalimat. Kedua, pembicara menggunakan directives dalam ucapannya. Itu berarti bahwa pembicara memerintahkan orang lain untuk melakukan tindakan lewat ucapan. Ketiga, pembicara menggunakan commisives untuk melakukan suatu tindakan sendiri. Keempat, pembicara menggunakan expressives untuk mengungkapkan keadaan psikologi tentang situasi atau keadaan senang dan sedih. Selanjutnya, tipe-tipe tindak lokusi telah terpenuhi dalam film ini karena lokusi merupakan ucapan atau kalimat itu sendiri. Tipe tindak lokusi adalah menerangkan, perintah, dan pertanyaan. Disarankan kepada peneliti selanjutnya untuk menginvestigasi declarations terhadap pembicara yang jarang menghasilkan tipe tindak tutur tersebut. Dengan menginvestigasi ujaran declaration, mereka bisa menambah penemuan baru tentang tindak tutur untuk memperkaya studi pragmatik.
English Abstract
Basically, people produce an utterance as an action. It means that they can do anything through utterances and sentences such as requesting, commanding, asserting apologizing, and thanking. To express the idea, people do not only produce utterances consisting grammatical structure, but also they do an action via their utterances. Speech act is a field of linguistics which analyzes language phenomena. Speech act can be found in utterances of movie. Hence, the writer chooses film “Letters to God” as the object of research. The language used by the main characters reflect social phenomena when they are angry, happy, sad or annoyed. In addition, the language used by the main characters are simple. Yet, it has a great effect on the hearer’s respond. This research attempts to find out the locutionary and illocutionary acts used by the main characters of “Letters to God” movie. The research questions are focused on those types of each locutionary and illocutionary acts based on the theory proposed by Levinson and Searle.The descriptive qualitative method is used to conduct this research. To analyze the data, the context of each scenes and writing letters are explained first. Then the data are presented and analyzed by using speech act theory. Based on the findings of this study, speech acts used by the main characters’ utterances based on the illocutionary types can be described as follows: Firstly, most speakers use representative to represent a statement. Secondly, directive in uttering words or sentences. It means that speaker asks someone else to perform an action through utterances. Thirdly, speaker uses commisive utterances to commit himself to the performance of action. Fourthly, speaker uses expressive to express a psychological state about the situation or state of pleasure and sadness. Furthermore, the types of locutionary acts are fulfilled in this movie since locution is the utterances or sentences itself. The types of locutionary acts are declarative, imperative, and interrogative. It is suggested to further researchers to investigate declarations due to the speakers rarely produce an utterance which contains those types of speech acts. By investigating declaration of utterances, they can contribute new findings about speech act for the sake of enriching pragmatics studies.
