Abstract
Komunikasi adalah media bagi manusia untuk berinteraksi dengan orang lain. Jika seseorang mengalami gangguan bicara, ia tidak akan dapat berkomunikasi dengan baik. Gangguan bicara adalah gangguan yang mempengaruhi kemampuan seseorang untuk menghasilkan pembicaraan yang normal. Salah satu gangguan bicara adalah gagap seperti yang tergambar dalam film The King’s Speech. Penulis memilih film The King’s Speech karena film tersebut menggambarkan fenomena gagap yang terjadi di kehidupan sosial. Berdasarkan alasan-alasan yang dinyatakan sebelumnya, penulis meneliti: (1) Pola gagap yang ditemukan dalam dialog dari karakter utama dalam film The King’s Speech, dan (2) Situasi ketika karakter utama dari film The King’s Speech berbicara gagap. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif. Data penelitian ini diambil dari dialog-dialog karakter utama (Bertie) dalam film The King’s Speech. Data yang ditemukan adalah 15 adegan film yang berisi ucapan-ucapan gagap yang diucapkan oleh Bertie sebagai karakter utama. Data yang ditemukan kemudian di analisis menggunakan teori dari Hulit (1996) dan The Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (2010) untuk menemukan dan mengidentifikasi pola gagap pada ucapan Bertie. Penemuan menunjukkan bahwa pola gagap yang dilakukan oleh Bertie adalah pengulangan, penutupan, keragu-raguan, penambahan schwa, dan revisi. Pengulangan adalah pola yang paling sering muncul dan meliputi pengulangan huruf pertama dalam sebuah kata, pengulangan keseluruhan kata, pengulangan sebuah kata tunggal, dan pengulangan suku kata dalam suatu kata. Kondisi yang mempengaruhi ujaran gagap Bertie dipengaruhi oleh tiga situasi yaitu kegelisahan, emosi, dan tekanan. Peneliti menyarankan bagi para peneliti selanjutnya yang tertarik untuk memilih gagap sebagai topik penelitian, mereka dapat menggunakan media lain selain film untuk mengungkapkan pola-pola dan situasi gagap yang lain. Peneliti selanjutnya dapat menggunakan teori-teori lain dari gagap untuk menambah perbedaan dan pandangan yang lebih mendalam dari fenomena-fenomena gagap.
English Abstract
Communication is the media for human to interact with others. If someone experiences disorder in his speech, he will not be able to communicate well. Speech disorder is a disorder that affects the ability of someone to produce normal speech. One of the speech disorders is stuttering as reflected in the movie The King’s Speech. The writer chose The King’s Speech movie since it depicted about the stuttered phenomena that happened in social life. Based on the reasons stated before, the writer investigated: (1) The patterns of stuttering found in the dialogues of the main character in the movie The King’s Speech and (2) The situation when the main character of the movie The King’s Speech stuttered. This study uses qualitative research. The data of this study were taken from the dialogues of the main character (Bertie) in the movie The King’s Speech. The data found are 15 scenes of the movie which contain the stuttering utterances spoken by Bertie as the main character. The data obtained were analyzed by using the theories of Hulit (1996) and The Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (2010) to find and identify the pattern of stuttering in utterances produced by Bertie. The findings show that the patterns of stuttering utterances committed by Bertie were repetitions, closure, hesitation, adding a schwa, and revision. Repetition was the most frequently occured pattern that consists of repetition of the first letter in a word, repetition of the whole words, repetition of a single whole word, and repetition of a syllable in a word. Bertie’s stuttering utterances were influenced by 3 situations, namely nervousness, emotion, and stress. The researcher suggests for the next researcher who are interested in choosing stuttering as their research topic to use another media besides film to reveal other patterns and situation of stuttering. The next researcher can also use other theories of stuttering in order to gain a different and deeper insight of stuttering phenomenon.
