Indonesian Abstract

Minyak atsiri mempunyai aktivitas antibakteri. Salah satu minyak atsiri Indonesia yang berpotensi sebagai antibakteri adalah minyak atsiri dari tanaman jintan putih (Cuminum cyminum L.). Informasi tentang standar kualitas minyak atsiri masih belum diketahui. Hal tersebut menjadi dasar penelitian ini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui profil komponen minyak atsiri jintan putih, dan aktivitasnya sebagai antibakteri S. aureus. Minyak atsiri jintan putih pada penelitian ini diperoleh menggunakan metode distilasi uap dengan variasi waktu 5, 7, dan 9 jam. Karakterisasi sifat fisik minyak atsiri jintan putih dilakukan berdasarkan warna, aroma, wujud, penentuan berat jenis, dan indeks bias. Identifikasi komponen minyak atsiri jintan putih dilakukan menggunakan Kromatografi Gas-Spektrometri Massa (KG-SM), dan uji aktivitas antibakteri S. aureus terhadap minyak atsiri jintan putih menggunakan metode difusi cakram. Minyak atsiri jintan putih yang diperoleh berupa cairan berwarna kuning muda. Rendemen tertinggi (0,89%) diperoleh dari hasil distilasi 7 jam. Hasil analisis KG-SM menunjukkan minyak atsiri jintan putih dengan waktu distilasi 5, 7, dan 9 jam menghasilkan berturut-turut 13, 12, dan 11 senyawa. Kadar cuminaldehid tertinggi (62,50%) sebagai senyawa utama minyak atsiri jintan putih diperoleh pada hasil distilasi uap 5 jam. Aktivitas antibakteri Staphylococcus aureus dari minyak atsiri jintan putih tertinggi (32 mm) diperoleh pada hasil distilasi 5 jam, dan 7 jam. Waktu distilasi mempengaruhi rendemen, profil komponen, dan aktivitas antibakteri S. aureus terhadap minyak atsiri jintan putih.

English Abstract

The essential oils have antibacterial activity. One of Indonesia’s essential oils have potencial as antibacterial is the essential oil from white cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.). The information about Indonesian quality standardization of white cumin’s essential oils have not known, so this is the basis of this research. The aims of this research was to determine the component profile of white cumin oils and its antibacterial activity against S. aureus. White cumin oils were isolated by steam distillation method with time variation for 5, 7, and 9 hours. The physical properties of its essential oils were based on state, color, odor, and determined specific gravity, and refractive index. The chemical components were analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS), and antibacterial activity of white cumin oils against S. aureus investigated by disc diffusion methods. The results of this research indicates that white cumin oils was a yellow light liquid. The highest yield (0,89%) of its components was obtained by distillation for 7 hours. The result of GC-MS showed that white cumin oils isolated by steam distillation for 5, 7, and 9 hours contained of 13, 12, and 11 components, respectively. The highest cuminaldehyde level (62,50%) as the main compound of cumin essential oil was obtained at steam distillation for 5 hours. The highest antibacterial activity of white cumin oils against S. aureus (32 mm) was obtained by distillation for 5 hours, and 7 hours. The distillation time influences the yield, component, and antibacterial activity against S. aureus of white cumin oils.
