Abstract
Manusia merupakan makhluk sosial yang hidup dalam sebuah kelompok dan bergantung dengan orang lain untuk memenuhi kebutuhannya, hal ini di representasikan oleh kera melalui film Rise of the Planet of the Apes karya Rupert Wyatt dan sekuelnya Dawn of the Planet of the Apes karya Matt Reeves. Cara kera hidup dengan kelompoknya di dalam film sangat menarik karena mereka membentuk dan menjalani kehidupannya sangat manusiawi dan agak berbeda dengan kera di dunia nyata. Hal ini tidak lepas dari kegiatan percobaan terhadap kera yang memungkinkan kera memiliki kecerdasan yang mampu menyamai manusia. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kelompok sosial yang diinisiasi oleh Soerjono Soekanto untuk menganalisis secara detail tentang kelompok sosial yang dibentuk oleh kera serta cara kera merepresentasikannya. Hasil yang didapatkan adalah bahwa kelompok kera di dalam film merepresentasikan manusia, tidak hanya melalui bentuk kelompok sosialnya namun juga dari aspek cara mereka hidup serta konsep-konsep dasar yang secara umum hanya dilakukan oleh manusia seperti adanya konsep kendaraan, pendidikan, dan hirarki. Film ini mengkritisi manusia jaman sekarang yang berlomba lomba dalam ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi. Kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi dapat menunjang kehidupan tetapi hal itu juga dapat menimbulkan masalah baru dalam kehidupan seperti yang dialami oleh kera di dalam film.
English Abstract
Human is a social creature which lives in a group and depends on the other creature to fulfil their needs. This kind of thing is represented by apes through the movies entitled Rise of the Planet of the Apes by Rupert Wyatt and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes by Matt Reeves. The way they live with their group in the movies are very interesting because they create their society and live with humanlike way and it is different with apes in the reality. This cannot be separated from experimental activity against the apes that makes them to have intelligence which is equal with human. The theory used in this study is Social group initiated by Soerjono Soekanto to analyze in detail the formation of apes social group and the way apes represent human. The research found that the group of apes in the movies represent human not only from the formation of their social group but also from the aspects of their way of life and basic concepts that carried out only by human such as the concept of transportation, education, and hierarchy. The movies are criticized about human nowadays which compete in knowledge and technology. Advances in knowledge and technology can support life but it also lead to a new problem of life as experienced by apes in the movies.
