Indonesian Abstract

Pengobatan herbal semakin berkembang seiring dengan berpindahnya fokus masyarakat terhadap kesehatan. Ubi Jalar (Ipomoea batatas L.) varietas Ungu merupakan sumber pangan kaya nutrisi dan mengandung antosianin, senyawa flavonoid dengan sifat antioksidan. Diperlukan penelitian mengenai profil keamanan terhadap hati agar antosianin ubi jalar ungu dapat dikembangkan menjadi obat herbal terstandar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengamati efek subkronis ekstrak etanol ubi jalar ungu kultivar Gunung Kawi terhadap kadar SGOT dan SGPT tikus Wistar. 80 ekor tikus Wistar (40 jantan dan 40 betina) dibagi dalam empat kelompok perlakuan sesuai jenis kelamin dan dipaparkan dengan ekstrak etanol ubi jalar ungu setiap hari selama 90 hari, dengan kontrol negatif dan kelompok dosis 10, 20, dan 40 mg/kgBB. Data yang diperoleh berupa kadar SGOT dan SGPT dari serum. Data diolah menggunakan uji normalitas Shapiro-Wilk Test, uji homogenitas Levene Test, uji parametrik One-Way ANOVA dan unpaired t-Test, dan uji nonparametrik Kruskal-Wallis Test dan Mann-Whitney Test. Tidak terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara kelompok dosis untuk kadar SGOT (p = 0,577 dan 0,236) dan SGPT (p = 0,318 dan 0,934) serta antar jenis kelamin untuk kadar SGOT (p = 0,079, 0,075, 0,080, dan 0,623) dan kadar SGPT kelompok kontrol dan dosis 10 mg/kgBB (p = 0,064 dan 0,218), namun terdapat perbedaan signifikan antar jenis kelamin pada kadar SGPT kelompok 20 dan 40 mg/kgBB (p = 0,009 dan 0,002) meskipun di bawah tiga kali batas atas normal. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah ekstrak ubi jalar ungu tidak menimbulkan hepatotoksisitas, namun menimbulkan efek yang berbeda terhadap kadar SGPT tikus betina dan jantan.

English Abstract

Herbal medicine is advancing in line with the paradigm shift regarding health. Purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is a food source rich in nutrients and contains anthocyanins, flavonoid compounds with antioxidant activity. The safety of purple sweet potato anthocyanins on the liver needs to be established to facilitate its development as standardized herbal products. This research aims to examine subchronic effects of purple sweet potato (Gunung Kawi cultivar) ethanolic extract on serum AST and ALT of Wistar rats. Eighty Wistar rats (40 male and 40 female) were grouped into four groups according to sex and exposed to purple sweet potato ethanolic extract daily for 90 days, with a negative control group and treatment groups of 10, 20, and 40 mg/kgBW. Serum AST and ALT levels are subjected to Shapiro-Wilk test of normality and Levene test of homogeneity, then analyzed using One-Way ANOVA, unpaired t-Test, Kruskal-Wallis Test, and Mann-Whitney Test. No significant differences were observed between doses in AST (p = 0,577 and 0,236) and ALT (p = 0,318 and 0,934) and between sex in AST (p = 0,079, 0,075, 0,080, and 0,623) and the control and 10 mg/kgBW groups of ALT (p = 0,064 and 0,218). Significant differences were observed between sex in groups 20 and 40 mg/kgBW of ALT (p = 0,009 and 0,002), with levels below three times the upper limit of normal. In conclusion, purple sweet potato ethanolic extract does not exhibit hepatotoxicity but exerts different effects in ALT levels between female and male rats.
