Abstract

English Abstract

Humans and environment are inseparable components that are strongly correlated. The importance of surroundings for humans creates their own way of effort to preserve and keep their zone safe done by people who inhabit certain area. One of some examples of how humans maintain their nature through local culture is the people of Sendi. A small village located in Mojokerto Regency, East Java. Their local culture does not only serve as their unique characteristic, but also an act to defend their selves in their circle. The behavior and social movement of Sendi people to protect and fight for their rights put together the ex-villagers of Sendi to form the Forum Perjuangan Rakyat (FPR). Employing the qualitative research method by describing the data descriptively, the Sendi community and the forest dynamics that has been kept for generations can be explained. Through the woods existence, Sendi community has lived side-by-side with nature and God. Upon that correlation, a social order was created in which Sendi people acts as the guardian of their environment and their own community. The dynamics in the forest is ever increasing with the arrival of other guardians of the wood, the Indonesian Forest Company (Perhutani) representing the government. The society’s effort to claim legality has since become interesting topic to be talked about where the people is encouraged by the non-governmental organization (LSM) to form FPR. FPR along with Sendi community have fought to get their legal claim for the land in Sendi area through massive and organized social movements. Unfortunately, their effort has not made any meaningful progress until this day
