Indonesian Abstract

Nyamuk Culex sp. merupakan serangga penular (vektor) yang mampu menyebarkan berbagai penyakit seperti Filariasis. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengontrol vektor tersebut adalah menggunakan repellent untuk menolak gigitan nyamuk, namun penggunaan repellent kimiawi bisa menyebabkan efek samping seperti ruam kulit dan iritasi pada mata. Ekstrak bunga kamboja merah (Plumeria rubra) mengandung senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, fenol, tanin dan terpenoid yang dapat berpotensi sebagai repellent terhadap nyamuk Culex sp. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain true experimental-post test only control group dilakukan dengan metode cawan untuk melihat potensi ekstrak bunga kamboja merah (Plumeria rubra) sebagai repellent dengan konsentrasi 5%, 10%, dan 15%. Indikator potensi yang dimaksud adalah jumlah hinggapan nyamuk pada cawan. Analis data menggunakan metode Oneway ANOVA. Hasil penelitian, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara ekstrak bunga kamboja merah dengan kontrol negatif dan tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara ekstrak bunga kamboja merah konsentrasi 5%, 10% dan 15% dengan kontrol positif (DEET).Dengan demikian ekstrak konsentrasi 5%,10% dan 15% memiliki potensi sebagai repellent, Namun ekstrak 15% mempunyai potensi paling tinggi dibanding dengan ekstrak 10%. Penurunan konsentrasi ekstrak akan menurunkan potensi repellent dan semakin lama waktu pengamatan semakin menurunkan potensi ekstrak bunga kamboja merah (Plumeria rubra).

English Abstract

Culex sp. is a transmitting insect (vector) that can spread various diseases like filariasis. One of the preventive measures against the diseases transmitted by Culex sp. is to use mosquito repellent. However, most of mosquito repellent use chemical ingredients that can cause side effects such as skin rashes and eye irritation. This is why a natural repellent is crucial to be made for healthier alternative. Frangipani flower (Plumeria rubra) contains alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, phenols, tannins and terpenoids that can be used as repellent against Culex sp. This study used the True experimental method with post test only control group design. The experiment was using cup method to see the potential of Frangipani extract (Plumeria rubra) as a repellent. The concentrations applied were 5%, 10%, and 15%. The indicator of Flangipani potential was judged based on the number of mosquitoes perched on the cup. The method of data analysis was Oneway ANOVA. The results demonstrated significant difference between Frangipani extract with the negative control group. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between Frangipani extract on the concentrations of 5%,10% and 15% with positive control (DEET). Therefore, the extract concentration of 10% and 15% had the potential as a repellent, with the best concentration for repellent was 15%. Furthermore, decreasing the extract concentration will reduce the repellent potential, and the longer the observation time, the lower the potential of Frangipani extract (Plumeria rubra).
