Indonesian Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus merupakan bakteri yang sering ditemukan pada penderita mastitis. WHO (2013) menyatakan bahwa di negara-negara ASEAN angka kesakitan mastitis mencapai 8,7%. Kulit jeruk nipis mengandung senyawa flavonoid, tanin, saponin, dan alkaloid yang berpotensi sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan bahwa ekstrak etanol kulit jeruk nipis (Citrus aurantifolia) memiliki efek antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus secara in vitro. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental laboratorik dengan metode difusi sumuran untuk menentukan zona hambat yang terbentuk di sekitar lubang sumuran. Sampel yang digunakan adalah Staphylococcus aureus yang diperoleh dari Laboratorium Mikrobiologi FKUB, Malang. Konsentrasi yang digunakan adalah 0%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, dan clindamycin sebagai kontrol positif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ekstrak etanol kulit jeruk nipis dapat menghambat pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus mulai dari konsentrasi 25% dengan rata-rata diameter zona hambat 2,82 mm. Hasil analisis data dengan Uji Kruskal-Wallis (p=0.000) menunjukkan adanya perbedaan pada setiap pemberian konsentrasi ekstrak etanol kulit jeruk nipis terhadap diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk. Hasil Uji Spearman (p=0.000, r=0.965) menunjukkan semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak yang diberikan maka semakin besar diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol kulit jeruk nipis memiliki efek antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus secara in vitro.

English Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium that is often found in people with mastitis. WHO (2013) states that in ASEAN countries, mastitis morbidity rate reaches 8.7%. Lime peel (Citrus aurantifolia) contains flavonoids, tannins, saponins and alkaloids that have potential as antibacterial. This study was aimed to prove that the ethanol extract of lime peel has an antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus. This research was a laboratory experimental study with a well diffusion method to determine the inhibition zone formed around the well hole. The sample used was Staphylococcus aureus that obtained from The Microbiology Laboratory, Medical Faculty of Brawijaya University, Malang. The concentrations used were 0%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, and clindamycin as positive controls. The results showed that ethanol extract of lime peel can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus started from concentration 25% with an average diameter of the inhibition zone 2.82 mm. The results of Kruskal-Wallis Test (p = 0.000) indicated that there was a difference in each concentration of lime peel ethanol extract on the diameter of the inhibition zone formed. The results of Spearman Test (p = 0.000, r = 0.965) indicated that the higher concentration of extract given will increase the diameter of inhibition zone. It is concluded that the ethanol extract of lime peel has an antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus in vitro.
