Indonesian Abstract

Infeksixnosokomial merupakan salahxsatu penyebab meningkatnyaxangka kematian dan morbiditasxpada pasien yang dirawatxdi rumah sakit. Infeksi nosokomialxdapat berupa central-line associatedxblood streamxinfection (CABSI), ventilator-associatedxpneumonia (VAP), dan catheter-associatedxurinary tract infection (CAUTI). Salah satu bakterixyang sering menyebabkan CAUTIxadalah Proteusxmirabilis. Terapi pada kasus infeksixProteus mirabilis menjadi semakin sulitxkarena Proteus mirabilis memilikixkemampuan untuk menghindari responximun tubuh dan membentuk resistensi terhadapxantimikroba. Penggunaan bahan herbalxsebagai antimikroba dapat menjadi alternatif dalamxmengatasi permasalahan resistensi antimikrobaxtersebut. Salah satu bahan herbal yangxmudah didapat dan memiliki potensixantimikroba adalah daun beluntas (Plucheaxindica L.). Bahan aktif dalam daun beluntasxyang memiliki efek antimikroba adalahxalkaloid, flavonoid, dan tannin. Tujuan darixpenelitian ini adalah untuk membuktikan efekxantimikroba ekstrak etanol daunxbeluntas (Pluchea indica L.) terhadap Proteusxmirabilis secara in vitro. Metode yang digunakanxdalam penelitian ini adalah difusi sumuranxdengan konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun beluntasxsebesar 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, dan 50% dengan pengulanganxsebanyak empat kali untuk tiap konsentrasi. Hasilxpenelitian menunjukkan bahwa zona inhibisixterbentuk pada semua konsentrasixtersebut. Analisis data menggunakanxOne-way ANOVA Test menunjukkan nilai p<0,05 sehinggaxdapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruhxsignifikan antara perubahan konsentrasixekstrak etanol daun terhadapxpertumbuhan Proteus mirabilis. Uji korelasi Spearmanxmenunjukkan bahwa semakin besar konsentrasixekstrak etanol daun beluntas maka semakin besarxzona inhibisi yang terbentuk. Jadi dapatxdisimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun beluntasxmemiliki efekxantimikroba terhadap Proteusxmirabilis secara in vitro.

English Abstract

Nosocomial infectionxis one of the causes of the increasexin mortality and morbidity in patientsxwho are hospitalized. Nosocomial infectionxcan be in the form of central-linexassociated blood stream infection (CABSI), ventilatorassociatedxpneumonia (VAP), and catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). One of the bacteriaxthat often causes CAUTI is Proteusxmirabilis. Therapy in the case of Proteusxmirabilis infection becomes increasinglyxdifficult because Proteus mirabilis has the ability toxavoid the body's immune response and developxresistance to antimicrobials. The use of herbal ingredients asxantimicrobials can be an alternative in overcoming thexproblem of antimicrobial resistance. One of the herbalxingredients that can be found easily and has antimicrobialxpotential is beluntas leaves (Pluchea indica L.). The active ingredients in beluntasxleaves that have antimicrobial effects are alkaloids, flavonoids, andxtannins. The purpose of thisxstudy was to prove the antimicrobialxeffect of ethanol extract of beluntas (Pluchea indica L.) leaves on Proteusxmirabilis in vitro. The methodxused in this study was wellxdiffusion method with concentration of ethanolxextract of beluntas leaves by 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% with repetition fourxtimes for each concentration. The results showed that the zonexof inhibition was formed at all of these concentrations. Data analysisxusing One-way ANOVA Test showed p<0.05 so it can bexconcluded that there was a significant effect betweenxchanges in the concentration of ethanol extractxof beluntas leaves on the growth of Proteus mirabilis. Spearmanxcorrelation test showed that the greater the concentration of ethanolxextract of beluntas leaves, the greaterxthe zone of inhibition formed. So it can be concludedxthat the ethanol extract of beluntas leaves has antimicrobialxeffects on Proteus mirabilis in vitro.
