English Abstract

Cancer is a malignant disease that is still become a highlight in the world. In 2013, according to the report of Basic Health Research 1.4 per 1000 people diagnosed with cancer. Given the data, the highest 6th rank of cancer prevalence was occupied by East Java province at 1.6 per 1,000 populations. This study aims to determine the correlation between fat intake, nutritional status, and quality of life of colorectal cancer outpatients in RSSA Malang. The design of this research was descriptive in cross-sectional approach. Sampling method was using purposive sampling technique (n=35). Fat intake variables (total fat, SAFA, MUFA, PUFA, and frequency) were obtained from 24-hours recall. Nutritional status variables (total body fat, visceral fat, BMI) were measured using BIA and Quality of life variable were obtained through interviews with the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire. The results from Pearson Correlation test showed no significant correlation between total fat intake (p=0.079), SAFA (p=0.152), MUFA (p=0.121), PUFA (p=0.124), fat frequency (p=0.053) with total body fat. There was no correlation between total fat intake (p=0.452), SAFA (p=0.692), MUFA (p=0.272), PUFA (p=0.313), and fat frequency (p=0.471) with visceral fat. There was no significant correlation between total body fat (p = 0,595), visceral fat (p = 0,345), and IMT (p = 0,137) with quality of life. There was no correlation between total fat intake (p = 0,059), SAFA (0,119), MUFA (p = 0,084), PUFA (p = 0,109), or fat frequency (p = 0,161) with quality of life. The conclusion is there is no significant correlation between fat intake, nutritional status, and quality of life of colorectal cancer outpatients in RSSA Malang.
