Indonesian Abstract

Mangga ( Mangifera sp.) merupakan salah satu buah tropis unggulan yang digemari oleh masyarakat di dunia dan menjadi komoditas perdagangan antar negara. Publitas mangga dikenal sebagai The Best Loved-Tropical , mendampingi popularitas durian sebagai King of Fruit . Indonesia sebagai salah satu produsen manga memiliki masalah dalam pengembangan kultivar, yaitu kultivar dengan kualitas rasa yang baik tidak disertai dengan penampilan luar yang baik, khususnya dalam hal warna kulit, sementara buah dengan dengan kulit luar yang berwarna cukup baik, mempunya serat yang relatif kasar. Persilangan anatra Arumanis-143 dengan berbagai kultivar mangga berkulit merah telah dilakukan sejak tahun 2001 hingga 2004 dan telah menghasilkan 65 F1. Namun belum dilakukan karakterisasi dan evaluasi awal terhadap aksesi-aksesi tersebut. Hal tersebut melatar belakangi dilakukannya penelitian yang bertujuan untuk karakterisasi karakter vegetatif aksesi mangga tetua dan F1, dan melakukan pendugaan nilai kemiripan antartetua, antartetua dengan F1 dan antar-F1 terpilih dari masing-masing persilangan. Seluruh rangkaian penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Cukurgondang, Pasuruan, Jawa Timur. Lahan tersebut berada di bawah tanggung jawab Balai Penelitian Tanaman Buah Tropis (Balitbu) Solok. Pelaksanaan penelitian dimulai dari Februari hingga Juni 2011. Alat yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah tabel evaluasi, horticulture colorwheel, meteran, meteran kayu, alat tulis, kamera, IPGRI (International Plant Genetic Research Institute) seri mangga tahun 2006 dan software MVSP 3.1. Bahan yang diperlukan dalam penelitian adalah 8 tetua dan 48 aksesi mangga F1 hasil persilangan antara Arumanis-143 dengan berbagai kultivar mangga berkulit merah. Tetua mangga yang berkulit merah dikode dengan Cg232, Cg292, Cg112, Cg196, Cg299, Cg88, dan Cg221. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (i) tetua memiliki karakter vegetatif yang beragam atau berbeda satu sama lain (ii) tetua yang beragam menghasilkan aksesi-aksesi yang beragam dan nilai kemiripan yang menyebar. Aksesi-aksesi hasil persilangan tidak cenderung kepada tetua tertentu, (iii) aksesi terpilih tidak menggerombol pada satu aksesi saja, atau berbeda satu sama lain.

English Abstract

Mango ( Mangifera sp. ) is such favorable fruit that it becomes popular fruit in world trade. Mango is celebrated as ‘The Best Loved -Tropical, stand besides Durian as ‘King of Fruit’ . Mango can be a prospective horticultural product when it intensively cultivated. Indonesia is one of mango producer, but the export quantity was decreased year by year. The serious problem was superior mango from Indonesia didn’t have a good market because of bad appearance which was greenish skin. On the other hand, Indonesian red skin mangoes have bad quality of fruit. The breeding to assemble those important characters that was Arumanis-143 like quality, but having red skin color had been done form 2001 to 2004, and it had grown 65 F1 progenies but, the characterization for evaluation had yet to do. That was what forms the background of this study. The purposes of this study were to characterize the vegetative characters of both parents and the progenies, to estimate similarity value among parents, among parents and progenies of each crossing, and the chosen accession. The whole research was conducted in Cukurgondang mango plantation (KP. Cukurgondang), that was located in Grati, Pasuruan, East Java. KP cukurgondang belongs to Indonesian Tropical Fruit Research Institute, Solok. The research was done during February to June 2011. Some equipment needed was IPGRI evaluator mango series 2006, horticulture colorwheel, MVSP 3.1 statistical software, tapemeasure, wood tape-measure, stationaries and camera. While the materials were eight-clonal parent (includes Arumanis-143), and 48 accession as the filial of crossing combination of the eight parents. The eight parents were Arumanis-143, Cg232, Cg292, Cg112, Cg196, Cg299, Cg88, and Cg221 The research showed that (i) each parent showed differences in vegetative character; (ii) various parents resulted various progenies that had various similarity values. The progenies of each crossing didn’t tend to be like one parent; (iii) the chosen accession showed differences in crown shape, foliage density, leaf blade shape, leaf area, petiole length and color of young leaf.
